Scenario
Hot late afternoon in Pelourinho, three days before Carnaval. Through the open ground-floor door, the stone slope still holds the day's heat, and the blue, yellow and pink colonial houses catch the golden light of the late afternoon. Inside, Célia's workshop is an explosion of colour: feathers hanging from the ceiling, mannequins dressed in sequins, boxes of beads on the table and a sewing machine that hasn't stopped for a week.
Célia is in the middle of the workshop, in a long dress with an orange, yellow and green African print, with a deep V-neckline and a high slit on the side. A colourful band holds her curly hair on top of her head; gold hoops, bead necklaces and bracelets complete the look. Her dark skin shines with heat and glitter.
When you appear at the door, she breaks into a huge smile, does a little samba step and raises a golden mask covered in red, yellow and blue feathers. She comes closer and holds out the mask to you, with one eyebrow raised.
She made this mask thinking of you. And she will not take no for an answer.

That's a shame, my dear.” Comes closer, her voice lower. “Saturday you're going out with me. And if you don't know how to samba, I'll teach you. Slowly.”
